Debbie Center, music directress Snack and juice calendars generally follow a four to five week rotation. This allows each family to provide either snack or juice for the entire class about once a month. Families with two children will provide both snack and juice at their turn. Due to the school calendar of closings, not all families will be listed each month, and on some occasions the same family may appear twice in a month. Please remember to provide for 30 children in the morning and 35 children in the afternoon. No soda pop, cake or cupcakes. We prefer 100% juices or milk and a nutritionally beneficial snack. Note: NO Nuts of any kind!
We welcome special treats for birthdays. If you let the staff know in advance, the entire class will participate in a small birthday celebration for your child. Deviations from the nutritional norm for birthday treats would include cookies, donuts or ice cream. But again, no cake or cupcakes, please. Do not send birthday invitations or invitations for other extracurricular functions to school for distribution. Those not invited will feel excluded.
Label your children’s clothing – sweaters, coats, jackets, boots, gloves, mittens, hats and backpacks. Send boots for use on snowy or wet days because we will always try to spend some time outdoors, even if for a brief period. Do not send your child to school if he or she is subject to any outdoor activity restriction.
When your family is scheduled for snack or juice, your child is also welcome to bring an item from home to share with the other children. Good items are those that the teachers can use to help elicit verbal interaction with the child. Choose from nature, i.e. rocks, shells, leaves, something that the child has made, like a picture or drawing, or perhaps a photograph of the family, the child or a pet. We discourage items that will create an ongoing classroom distraction like toys, stuffed animals and dolls or action figures.
